After calming down the people, providing jobs and taking other steps that prevented the great depression from getting worse, it was time for the last and Third New Deal, Reform. Roosevelt knew that he had only stopped the depression from getting worse, but in order for something like this to never happen again, he needed to reform America's economy and change the situation with the working class. His plan was to create permanent programs to avoid another depression and to insure citizens against economic failure. The National Housing Act was enacted to make living and buying houses affordable for the working class. To make sure that the older generation of America had enough money to survive, the Social Security Administration was created. The plan behind is that workers pay social security taxes throughout their lives so that when they don’t work anymore, they still get money. To help set fair circumstances for workers, the National Labor Relation Act (NLRA) was established. It made sure that fair business practises were upheld and enforced a labor law, these set a minimum wage and a standard 40 hour work week, it made sure that workers were treated fairly because during the great depression many worked for many hours and didn't get enough loan for the work they did. In conclusion, all New Deal Programs helped stop the depression from getting worse, and we hope that our project helps too.

Shortly after his First New deal (Relief) , he started the second New Deal (Recovery). His goals during this time were social security, security against illness and a national work relief program, this basically meant providing jobs for the people. He achieved his goals by proposing several pieces of legislation such as the social security act that gave money to elders and the unemployed. The National Labor Relations Act helped employees getting work because it forced employers to allow unionization. The Works Administration Progress (WPA) established 1935, put unemployed in jobs in public works projects around the country. Our project, the Federal Writers Project) is part of the WPA . We want to fund written works and provide jobs for unemployed writers. The situation with writers and anyone who qualifies as a writer such as historians, librarians, lawyers and teachers concerns us, because there are not many appropriate work situations where those people can work. we want to make sure all writers find appropriate jobs. We charge and establish projects that employ writers, like children books or other projects. Our most famous one is the “American Guide Series”, it contains a description and pictures about nearly every state in the US. To make sure a economic crisis like the great depression does not happen again. Roosevelt planned his last step, Reform. Even though our Project does not concentrate on Relief, it was a very important step to halt the economies deterioration. Relief was the first Step in President F.D Roosevelt's plan to build America's economy up again. It meant giving financial aid to those who need it and taking action in stopping the economy from getting worse. Relief also included giving the banks a holiday, “Bank Holiday”, this was declared so the panic could be stopped and the banks could have time to recover before opening up again. To give financial aid the Federal Emergency Relief Act (FERA) was established, this gave immediate financial help to those who needed it it form of cash payments. Beside that project the Civil Works Administration (CWA) was founded that provided temporary jobs repairing roads and bridges. Even though this wasn't a temporary solution, it helped those who were unemployed to have a temporary job. These jobs did not only helped unemployed workers, it also helped repair and develop american infrastructure. Relief wasn't meant to be a temporary solution but it was still very important to help people in nead and gave the basis for the next step, recovery. |
